Black Bears
Students learned about overpopulation today. Each student became a black bear and all were living in the same forest. "Food" and "water" were scattered around, and students had to compete for the available resources. Out of both classes, only six bears were able to get enough food and water to survive. This activity demonstrates that too many organisms living in one area is impossible. When overpopulation occurs, weaker animals will either be killed or run off by stronger animals of the same species.
Geosticks
We discovered the properties of the following five quadrilaterals today using Geo Sticks: parallelogram, trapezoid, rhombus, square, and rectangle. Students know a lot about geometry! I know they are going to do AWESOME on this unit.
